This book brings together the most influential theories and reflections—from Greek philosophy to the present day—on the fundamental questions of philosophy. It confirms not only our persistent ignorance, arising from the continual and often exhausting effort of the human mind to answer questions that may be irresolvable or even poorly formulated, but also the intrinsic dynamism of Being itself: its tendency to experiment with new forms and to generate the unknown. The convergence of these two tendencies gives rise, on the side of Being (object, nature), to the extraordinary biodiversity of our planet, and, on the side of human consciousness (subject), to the remarkable development of science and technology.
